I have a feeling this guy would probably say he’s not a racist. Because it’s never ever that, is it? And he’d probably also claim to be a God-fearing family-man. Maybe he’d be surprised to learn that most of us are just disgusted by such fucking ignorance:

Miami-Dade fire captain Brian Beckmann made the following entry on his Facebook page last week on the same day that State Attorney Angela Corey announced she was charging neighborhood watchmen George Zimmerman with the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin:

“Listening to Prosecutor Corey blow herself and her staff for five minutes before pre-passing judgment on George Zimmerman. The state seeks reelection again, truth aside. I and my coworkers could rewrite the book on whether our urban youths are victims of racist profiling or products of their failed, shitbag, ignorant, pathetic, welfare dependent excuses for parents, but like Mrs. Corey, we speak only the truth. They’re just misunderstood little church going angels and the ghetto hoodie look doesn’t have anything to do with why people wonder if they’re about to get jacked by a thug.”

Beckmann later deleted the post and defended himself, writing, “I am a private citizen and have the same right to freely express an opinion on any subject that anyone else does. I choose not to embellish or alter the facts as your employer chose to do.”

And FOR THE RECORD:

Martin’s mother, Sabrina Fulton, is employed as a program coordinator at the Miami-Dade Housing Authority. His father, Tracey Martin, works as a truck driver. Neither of the parents is “dependant” on welfare.

The article reports that Miami-Dade fire rescue will investigate Beckmann’s comments. Hopefully they’re looking into whether this guy has the mental / emotional capacity to supervise anyone, but especially anyone who is even slightly different than him (not white, male, bald, and racist). In the meantime, no one should be surprised if Beckmann becomes both an instant celebrity with the local tea party “patriots” and a Fox “News” hero with appearances scheduled throughout the rest of the week.

The Martins lost their child because of a nut with a gun and all the rightwingnuts can do is find new and increasingly inhuman ways to blame the victim and his family.

Hey guys, George Zimmerman created his own website where you can donate money to fund his attorney fees.

I, along with a few other people (including artist Jermaine Rogers and his friends), have come up with what Jermaine calls the “Penny Protest”.

We are sending Zimmerman a cent, charged on our cards. The credit card fees to accept donations are as follows:  ”it is 2.9% plus $0.30 for anyone else (who is not a validated non-profit organization). Also, make sure to not send money as a transfer from your Paypal balance as he will not be charged a fee. Credit cards only.”

Become part of the movement that is the Penny Protest. Even if he chooses not to accept our donations, we can at least overwhelm him so that we can shut down this petty “donations” account. 

Oh and check out his awesome website. Poor Zimmerman is a dead man walking.

Wow, I see people are truly as stupid as I thought they were. I am unsure, but I HIGHLY doubt any credit card company would allow a one cent transaction. Even if they did, it’s not your fucking place to seek out harm for a person you don’t even fucking know. Trayvon Martin, as all evidence shows, was more than likely a fucking gang member and small time drug dealer, who was constantly getting into trouble at school, and making threats over Twitter. Who the fuck is to say he didn’t instigate and altercation with Mr. Zimmerman, beginning a fight, where Zimmerman was forced to defend himself? The only negative argument anyone has against George Zimmerman is that he had made several calls to police in a short time, meaning he was AN AVID NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHMAN. This was not an issue of racial profiling, and to say it is, is to put it plain and simply, bigotry. The media has you all pinned as fools if you truly believe this kid was killed because he was black. Doing the job of a neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman used his gut feeling to pursue an individual he deemed suspicious. Unfortunately, an altercation ensued and a person lost their life. But don’t draw conclusions because the fucking media wants to control you like a fucking puppet. And don’t fucking try to use this mans plea for donations as a way to fuck him over, until he is proven guilty. Because isn’t that how justice works? Innocent until proven guilty. Not guilty because a black kid was killed. 

Innocent until proven guilty is an important legal and ethical principle, yes. This means that even if somebody is a gang member, it doesn’t become legal to shoot them. You have to have reasonable grounds to suspect that they’re guilty of a specific crime, charge them with it, and convict them.

It’s funny, you say he was a drug dealer. I guess this is based on the idea (unproven!) that he sold marijuana at school. You know what we called the kid who sold marijuana at my high school?

“The guy with the weed.”

True story. I never once heard anybody call him a drug dealer. He didn’t even just deal in weed, though that was the main thing. He was the guy with the weed. 

He was white, of course. He got busted a couple of times. Funny thing about that: he was able to get busted a couple of times. This tells you right away that he didn’t, for instance, go to prison for ten years for possession with intent to sell. Technically you can be locked up as a drug dealer even with no proof that you’ve ever sold drugs, because even having a certain quantity is taken as evidence on its face of intent to sell. Just like you can be charged with prostitution if you’re a woman and you carry condoms.

How often do you think either of these injustices befall white people, compared to people of color? Police have discretion, prosecutors have discretion, and judges have discretion, and just like you they have a tendency to exercise that discretion on behalf of people they think look like good upstanding citizens and against people they think look like criminals, like “thugs”.

George Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty, yes. That’s why he needs to have his day in court, where he can be proven guilty. But Trayvon will never have the chance to defend himself against Zimmerman’s idea that he was a suspicious type who didn’t belong around nice families, or your idea that he’s a gang member, that he’s a drug dealer, that he’s a low-life or criminal or thug or whatever other code word you want to put on it. But in your mind, that doesn’t matter. He’s already been executed, so who needs a judge and jury?

It’s the white conservatives who keeop repeating how Zimmerman is “half-hispanic”, as if he ever was confused for anything but white. This is just another racist tactic from the right, just pitting black and brown against each other to distract from the fact that it’s the structural white supremacy that makes it OK to consider a kid “suspicious” for being black, and any latin person to be a potential illegal immigrant.

Also, yeah, the New Black Panthers are of course the biggest threat in the country. Obviously.
